O Quatrième, 2012
installation view, Les églises, Contemporary Art Center, Chelles, France 2012 © Aurélien Mole

Series of objects belonging to the nuns and sourced by Bak from their rooms to create the sound-effects in the video.

Co-production Les Eglises, centre d’art de Chelles, support Conseil Régional Nord Pas de Calais, France

O Quatrième takes place in a convent in Paris where Bertille Bak spent a considerable amount of time at the end of 2011
to work on this project. Through this new film the artist transcribes her perception of the nuns’ everyday life,
traditions and hobbies while evoking the afterlife. She creates a dialogue with this religious congregation and
its devotion to the “last passing”, which is represented and symbolized in the film by the physical rise of the nuns
in their convent as the years pass and as they get older and closer to the heavens…
